AURELIO GUTIÉRREZ

BIO

Winner of the Zarzuela Prize in Operalia (Paris, 2007), First Prize in the “Leo Slezak” International Competition first edition (Vienna, 2013) and “Best singer bof Spanish Music” at the first international competition “Iberian Voices” (Fafe, Portugal, 2000), Aurelio  studied for years with the great tenor Alfredo Kraus, after being accepted as his private student, and was his disciple until the maestro’s death, being the last singer to complele his vocal training.

Born in Avilés (Spain), he joined the “Polyphonic Choir of Aviles” at the age of nine. Later, he was a member of the Choir of the “Royal Superior Conservatory of Music of Madrid,” the “Orfeon de Castilla” and “Octeto Narval”, while finishing his studies at the Conservatory and at “Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía” in Madrid.

Among the artists he had the opportunity to learn from there are Miguel Barrosa, Pedro Lavirgen, Renata Scotto, Julia Hamari, Ileana Cotrubas, Jaime Aragall, Anna Maria Pizzoli, Dennis O’Neill, Leo Nucci, Marcello Giordani, Bill Schuman and Rafaele Cardone. He also has been conducted by prestigious names as Plácido Domingo, Marco Armiliato, Alberto Zedda, Enrique García Asensio, Miguel Roa, Pascual Osa, Michael Gütler, Stefano Rabaglia, Marco Guidarini...

Aurelio has performed in several operas and concert such as the Lyric Gala “Young Voices” of La Solana (Ciudad Real), several concerts of opera and lieder at the Lazaro Galdian Foundation, as well as the Nacional Auditorium of Music in Madrid, the Cantabria House of Madrid, French Institute of Madrid, Cervantes Theater (Málaga), “El Monte” Foundation (Huelva & Sevilla), San Juan Bautista Collegiate y Jovellanos Theater in Gijón; on several occasions he participated in Jaén and Menorca, and in a concert dedicated to Miguel Fleta in Ávila.

He performed in a Grand Lyric Gala with Alfredo Kraus, inaugurating the auditorium which was named after Kraus. After his mentor’s death, Aurelio dedicated a concert “in memoriam” of him at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which was to be
repeated in the auditorium Alfredo Kraus, in addition to various recitals for the “Orden del Cachorro Canario” at the same city.

He was also a soloist on the world premiere of two works by the composer Juan Carlos Casimiro, “Danza Prima” and “Somiedo,” at the Jovellanos Theater in Gijón, Spain.
Among his opera performances are his debut in the Theater of Zarzuela of Madrid with “Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente” and “Los Claveles”; “Luisa Fernanda” in Córdoba, Spain; Stabat Mater of Haydn at Euskalduna Palace, Bilbao; ”Stabat Mater (Rossini) in Teatro Bellini (Catania, Italy); “Elisir d’amore” in Teatro Arriaga (Bilbao, Spain), Miami (USA) and Augusta (Sicily, Italy); “Don Pasquale” in Murcia, Madrid and New York; “Le Nozze di Figaro” in Treviso, Italy; “Falstaff” in Fidenza (Italy); “La Traviata” in Vienna, Przemysl (Poland) and Catania (Italy); Rigoletto in Vienna; “La Boheme” in Bari (Italy); “I Puritani” in Liceo de Barcelona, and Miami; “Marina” also in Miami, where he was officially honored with the Golden Key of Miami-Dade County, in the name of the mayor.

His recital and concert performances include prestigious music festivals such as the Nits d’Opera in Ibiza; Conciertos de la Granja in san Ildefonso; the Spanish Cultural Center in Coral Gables (FL), Hotel Deauville (Miami Beach) and American British Academy in Muscat, (Oman), Opernsalon (Hamburgo), Opera Showcase in Merkin Concert Hall, NYC, Radio Television of Hong Kong (RTHK) and City University Theater, Altes Rathaus Grosser-Sitzsungssaal (Vienna).
He is also graduated with a Master's degree in Geology (UCM) and Master in Forest and Environmental Engineering (UPM) in Madrid.

He is currently also conductor and director of the radio program "Perlas Líricas" on the InformaRadio station.
